Sun-Current Today TV News Thursday, Oct. 22 For potential suburban light rail passengers the question is no longer where they will board the train but where they will get off. Though the route the proposed train will travel is not yet set in stone, its been all but decided that it will cut through the Golden Triangle in Eden Prairie before winding through Hopkins, Minnetonka, St. Louis Park and Minneapolis. But where in Minneapolis will the line end? Last week, Southwest Transitways Policy Advisory Committee formally supported route 3A as its locally preferred alternative. That route also has the support of the communities along the way, as well as community leaders in north Minneapolis. But community leaders in the Uptown neighborhood want to see light rail in their part of town, and they support route 3C. Both sides of Minneapolis were well represented Tuesday at the last public hearing before the Hennepin County Regional Rail Authority votes on the locally preferred alternative at its Nov. 3 meeting. Check out this weeks Eden Prairie Sun-Current lo learn more, and online at www.mnsun.com Bloomington Public Health has received a $1.6 million grant from the state to develop a health improvement plan, but it comes with some strings attached. The grant comes from one-time money appropriated by the legislature, so public health departments cant use the money for things that would require ongoing funding. The grant is limited to activities leading to healthier environments, policies or system changes to assure sustainability. Bloomington Public Health wrote the grant application in partnership with the Edina and Richfield community health boards. Bloomington Public Health serves Bloomington, Edina and Richfield. The money comes from the 2-percent tax the state collects from health care providers. The grant money will focus on three behaviors: poor nutrition, physical inactivity and tobacco use. Four sectors will be targeted: community, schools, work sites and health care. See next week's Sun-Current for the full story.
