Recorded June 18, 2007. Ketchikan is the southeasternmost sizable city in the state of Alaska. With an estimated population of 7,368 in 2007, it is the fifth most populous city in the state. The city is known as the "Salmon Capital of the World." Ketchikan is named after Ketchikan Creek, which flows through the town. With an average annual rainfall of 152 inches, Ketchikan has the heaviest average rainfall in North America. Ketchikan has the highest ZIP code in the United States, 99950. This video begins as we sail into the harbor on the Sapphire Princess. Once off the ship a head for Creek Street, a row of wooden buildings perched over the water on pilings, which is not a street at all, this boardwalk winds along Ketchikan Creek and was once the locale for all the area's brothels. Sitka Alaska Vacation - August 2007
We took a short vacation to Sitka Alaska in August. We saw bald eagles, whales, sea otter, and some very beautiful scenery.
Glacier Bay National Park
Recorded June 21, 2007. Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is located in the southern part of Alaska west of Juneau. The park area was included in an International Biosphere Reserve in 1986 and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park covers 5130 square miles.
