This is the tale of a tragic night, more terrible than any other night in the history of mankind, when that great paragon of virtue and perfection was struck down fatally by the sword of tyranny and ignorance. This film is tribute to Imam Ali (peace be upon him), who was martyred in the niche of prayer, because of his resolute and indomitable zeal for the cause of justice. "He was slain in the niche of prayer due to his devotion to the cause of justice." This film is a humble effort to present an account of the last ten years of the life of Imam Ali (peace be upon him). It starts by depicting the issues emanating from the last days of the third caliph, explaining the cause of Muslim revolt against him. It shows in detail the role of the companion of the third caliph, Abu Sufiyan(a staunch opponent of Prophet Muhammad(p)), Marwan bin Hakam (a relative of third caliph, Uthman ibne Affan) and Ka'b al-Ahbar, in agonizing the Muslims of Madinah. It also shows the havoc created by the decadent conduct of his governors namely Moawiya (governor of Syria) and Waleed (governor of Kufah). On the other hand, the film depicts the treatment meted out to the eminent companions of Prophet (p) as Abu Dhar Ghaffari, Ammar Yasir and Abdallah bin Ma'sud, for protesting against the deteriorating state of affairs of the Islamic state. Imam Ali (p) was present in Madinah throughout this period. Sidelined and isolated, he silently watched this sad state of affairs with "a thorn in his eye and a bone in his throat." Only after studying this period one can understand the turbulent conditions in which the Imam (p) rescued the ship of Islam from the great dangers, navigating it towards the shore of safety and deliverance.
