On each voyage stopping in Chennai, India, students have the chance to participate in a service project in a Dalit village. Through a partnership with the Bridge Education Trust, Semester at Sea students have done service projects in 40 Dalit villages over the last 20 years.

$100 Solution Service Learning Project - Preparations and Expectations
On the Fall 2009 voyage of Semester at Sea, students have the unique opportunity to participate in a service learning project called The $100 Solution. The project poses a simple question: "What can you do to enhance the quality of life in a community?" Started in 2005 by the Rotary Club of Prospect-Goshen, Kentucky, students learn problem-solving skills and improve the lives of others through gifts of $100 to individuals and communities. SAS Spring 2009 - Shipboard Athletics
The MV Explorer may be a 25000 ton passenger vessel, but it's also a floating university complete with recreation and fitness facilities. Students find that it's easy to stay active while at sea, though it requires just a little adaptation and flexibility.
