Newport Covered Bridge

This is a circa 1916, modified Howe trusses built over Sinking Creek, a 70-foot span currently maintained by Giles County, was left in place for the property owner when a new bridge was built in 1949. While travelling the western part of Indiana in Parke County, I visited The Bridgeton Covered Bridge, a 245-foot (75 m) long double span Burr Arch bridge built in 1868 by a crew led by JJ Daniels. The bridge was closed to traffic in 1968. The first Bridgeton Covered Bridge was burned by an arsonist on April 28, 2005..
