So some (those that are finely balanced) do not fire in accordance with information from the field. As information is lost from the field at the synapse quite quickly -temporaly-for focus to continue to occurr at the synaptic level -the firing rate of the synapse must increase. The loss of information from the field might result in neighboring neurons accidentally firing to produce mutation and this stray field effect will result in noise. (One could speculate that the accidental loss of information from neurons due to stray field effect would be reponsible ultimately for the development of mirror neurons). firing of neighbouring neurons However, being unavoidable and random it can be used as a signal to modulate the activity of cells. Also to avoid mutation causing the signal to stray from focus. the more neurons which can be coopted into this focussing process, the more able the key information stream is of being replicated from synapse to synapse rather than mutating. So the cog in our consciousness machine is the firing of the neuron. The trick is to engage the cogs of different senses so that they are in register. So that the short term memory in the field at the synapse belonging to each sense is given the same spatial and temporal origin. This Locates the 'Self' within consciousness.
