The Union Pacific has pressed hard and now has 3985 back in service! Ok, so maybe not really but in my 1:87 world both UP844 and UP3985 are up and running and on 7/31/09 I was able to get out and catch the two beasts handling a 16 car special using trackage rights on the BNSF Fall River Subdivision.
