Carbondale IL Inland Hurricane at Best Buy
Video inside the Carbondale, IL Best Buy during the inland hurricane on 5-8-09. Taken on my cell phone so the video quality is poor. The storm hit around 1:30pm with winds clocking in at 106 mph. It was considered to be an inland hurricane due to the structure of the storm which included an eye.

Fox news coverage of the storm that ripped through Southern Illinois May 8th. It blew a tree over in my yard crushing my fence and just missing my house by about 10 feet. It was a really big show here in my front yard....Fox had the satalite truck here and had lights everywhere lighting up my downed tree.
May Inland Hurricane Storm 2009
Carbondale, IL gets hit by a 20 minute 40 mile wide inland hurricane which had an average wind speed of 85 mph with gusts at ground level of 106 mph and 124 at treetop level. This is right after the tree fell on the car while we were in it. This is now being called a derecho (spanish for straight) due to the fact that nobody has hurricane insurance so the Governor came and emphasized that it was a derecho NOT a hurricane.

Southern Illinois "Inland Hurricane" EMT Call.
Recently Southern Illinois counties Jackson, Williamson, and Franklin was deamed a disaster area after some severe weather. National Weather Service called it a "inland hurricane". I work as an EMT and was at work during the storm. As soon as the weather died down my partner and I whent out on our first of many calls. We leave the station and head west down deyoung St or Rt 13 through Marion. Amazed at the destruction we soon end up on scene to a semi that stopped on the shoulder of the road ...

The round of severe storm came through Spring Hill on Good Friday April 10 2009 as the passed intensifying as they marched towards Murfreesboro. Later dropping a EF4 tornado. April 19, 2009 Storm Chase from Stanton, AL
NWS confirmed report on a Tornado on the ground in Stanton. Was on the storm for about an hour and followed it all the way to I-65. Very dangerous storm.
