In 1950 The Conemaugh Dam was constructed, and the town of Cokeville was moved and demolished, with the roads and bridges being raised to accomodate the flood plain. Take a ride on the old road just off PA 217 near Torrance State Hospital, down to an abandoned bridge. Old Railroad spurs and abuttments are nearby as well. Here is an abandoned spur bridge crossing the Youghiogheny River near the town of Adelaide, PA at mile post 90 of the Great Allegheny Passage Bike trail. The Local Artists have strived to keep the thing painted!! :-) This fed the Dickerson Run Coke ovens of the HC Frick Coal Co, and ran parallel to the Western Maryland Railroad right of way.
