Tribute to the Little River Railroad
A logging railroad opened in 1901 by Colonel B. Townsend, the Little River Railroad made history twice, and greatly affected life in the smokies. In 1925, Townsend sold the railroads land to the government. a major milestone in the creation of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. In 1939, the railroad ended operation. The tracks were torn up, the roadbed turned into hiking trails and highways, Elkmont became a ghost town, and all but three of the locomotives faced the scrapper's torch ...

Live Steam in Sweden: Borås MiniatyrÅngloksSällskap (filmed by shantos001)
In September some members of the Stormpolder Live Steamers visited one of the nicest 7¼" live steam tracks on the European continent: Borås miniatyrånglokssällskap. We brought two live steam locos with us: the NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen, Dutch Railways) 4014 (a 3 cylinder engine, the original built in Sweden by NOHAB and based on the H3s type that ran at the Bergslagernas Järnväg) and a narrow gauge O&K named "Klorus" (built in 7 months). Simpson Log Train Carman Rd to Dry Sort, Feb 1996
The Simpson rail line gains elevation above Shelton, WA by climbing through the Goldsborough Creek drainage. First we watch the train cross West Carman Road N in a heavy rain. Beyond here the line passes through Dayton and follows a light grade to Simpson's Dry Sort yard, about ten miles out of Shelton. You will listen in on an interesting conversation between the engineer and dispatcher. Apparently the trailing unit (SW1200) had lost power and the crew nursed it up the hill from Dayton. The ...
Simpson Timber Railroad Mainline Action in Dec 1995
Some material re-edited and re-posted, some not posted before. Nice weather on the day of shooting, frosty rime coats the ground at the Mid Fork Satsop River Bridge while the 1201 (cab forward) pulls log loads away from the reload. About 18 miles further east the train nears Dayton dry sort yard and the 1200 follows with ballast dump cars in tow. The rails are gone now from this point west. The last scene shows the train as it abuts Shelton Matlock Road at Chappell Crossing, about six miles ...
Cass Scenic Railroad - West Virginia USA

This state used to have over 3000 miles of logging lines, sadly they are all gone now, except for this 11 mile line between Cass and the summit at Bald Knob. This is the second highest mountain in West Virginia (4842 feet). This logging line never carried passengers, it's sole purpose was to bring the logs off the mountain, to the mill at Cass, as quickly and as cheaply as possible. To do this a new type of ...
