L.I. Piney Power show: Napeague State Park

Title:
L.I. Piney Power show: Napeague State Park

Description:
Situated on the south fork between Amagansett and Montauk is a duneland known as Napeague. This is one of the youngest sections of Long Island, only formed in the past hundred years or so. There used to be no forests here, just sand dunes. But a pitch pine forest, as well as dunelands filled with more pines, now grow in what is possibly Long Island's youngest pine barrens. Reindeer lichen also thrives here as well. Join me as I walk through on a sometimes tricky to follow Paumanok Path. This hike will travel east from Cranberry Hole road north of the LIRR tracks and Montauk Highway, toward a power substation.

L.I. Piney Power show: Lazy Point
Lazy Point is a very sandy area with dunes located north of where I was in the previous show. It is located in the NW side of Napeage Harbor, at the end of Lazy Point road. It is very sparsely populated here, but is a busy spot for fisherman and windsurfers. There is also dunes covered with many stunted pitch pines, and some small fresh water or brackish ponds mixed in. A very windy spot as you can hear in the video. You can also here me bsing about airplanes again, as a couple were putting ...

L.I. Piney Power show that almost wasn't: Lazy Point Dunelands in Napeague Part One
It's a long story. You see according to the latest announcement from Suffolk Transit the bus terminals were relocated in East Hampton. The S92 has been banished from going through the village (this will save time but reaks of discrimination) and the 10B and 10C bus now have their terminal at the East Hampton LIRR station. Which I thought, would work very well for me, as the train pulls in at 10:28am and the 10C leaves at 10:35am. The train pulled in right on time, but HJ (which operates the ...
