Title:
The Soldier's Wife (3 of 3)
Description:
The actors: This film was part of a collaboration in between some film and acting students at the University of the Arts. It was the first time that such a class has occurred in the school, and it was a mutually great experience for all (or so I like to believe). Samantha Clarke: Have you ever gone somewhere and out of all the girls you see only one that really, really catches your eye? Well, besides the fact that I was looking for a blonde to play the part, she exceeded my expectations. It is really fascinating to see someone joke and laugh in between filming shots and then when the moment is needed they transform their talent and energy into an emotion that... made me forget I was holding a camera. I hope and look forward to seeing more of her talent in the years to come. Matt Simberg: I met Matt by chance in the fall of 2008 while helping some classmates with a film project. I kinda DP'd for them and we gained a mutual, professional respect for each of our film making creativity. When I began searching for someone for this role, I first came across someone from the military. Yet, even though I would have liked to cast him, he did not fit the role since he was, hm, too ghetto, and I felt he wouldn't be as professional of an actor to do the things that I was asking to be done in this film. I had kept Matt in mind, but I was venturing out to see who else was out there. Realizing I had few other options, I talked to my classmate and got his contact info. Not only was Matt someone who fit the stature and scope of the role I was casting, but he performed it exactly and beyond my wants and needs. Bernadette Di Meglio: I went through five musicians before I came across her. The others made big promises, but only she delivered; for that, I am grateful for her contribution. However, I was casting a musician to play/sing, "Isn't She Lovely", but she auditioned on the phone, "Poor Butterfly". I was taken aback by the song (especially since I lived in Japan for three years) and her vocal abilities and, even with a bad back and being sick, we were able to capture her performance. Her song, "Renata", was also an unexpected surprise addition. I literally dropped the music in place with the film and it fit almost too perfect. As she said, "God has a plan for everything." Spooky perfect. --oh, and i know it's unconventional to have someone play out their song as i did, but i'm a student filmmaker and i'm 100% about promoting the talents that so generously are provided to me Here is Wiki's history on "Poor Butterfly": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poor_Butterfly Cortez Smith: Or, as his 'stage name' is, Cortez Armond. Well, he apparently got a job with Carnival Cruise Lines, so I guess that's all i really need to say about his 'acting ability'. Thanks to all who participated in this film. I could not have done it without all of your hard work and creative abilities.
