Ancient Rome V - Politics of the Republic

Title:
Ancient Rome V - Politics of the Republic

Description:
This is the fifth of many chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter deals with the different branches of the political system under the Roman Republic, including the jobs of magistrates such as consuls, praetors, aediles, quaestors, proconsuls, and censors, the increased prestige of the Senate, the roles of the Century and Tribal Assemblies, and an example of one of the few civilizations in recorded history where its citizens willingly allow a dictator to have complete rule. As this is one of many chapters being produced over this project, I would invite you to watch the other chapters dealing with the history of Ancient Rome. They can be viewed seamlessly under this playlist on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtseWnNmHqg&feature=PlayList&p=AF3D8467A06755CE&index=0&playnext=1 References: Kidney, Frank L., et al. Ancient Rome VI - The Conflict of the Orders
This is the sixth of many chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter deals with the issue between the two classes, or orders, in the society of the Roman Republic: the noble patricians and the not-so-noble plebeians. It will look into the early restrictions of plebeian involvement of the Roman government, and how those limitations slowly dissolved through the use of rather cheap tricks, like running away from home and using ...

This is the fourth of many chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter deals with the reign of Tarquin the Proud, and the scandal that led to his overthrow and the establishment of the Roman Republic (509 BC). Tarquin's attempt to take back the throne by way of the Etruscans is also covered, leading to the first ever battle held on Roman soil. As this is one of many chapters being produced over this project, I would invite you to ...

Ancient Rome VII - Invasion by the Gauls
This is the seventh of many chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter looks at the defeat and sacking of Rome in 387 BC at the hands of the invading Gallic Senone peoples from modern-day France, and the exorbitant ransom that the Gallic chief Brennus made Roman dictator Camillus and the city pay in return for their departure. We also see how Rome rebounded from the loss to the Gauls, tightening their military tactics and ...
Saludos! Tincho
Ancient Rome XX - The Conquests of Pompey
This is the twentieth of many chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter deals with the early political and military life of Gnaeus Pompeius, known today as simply Pompey. It looks into Pompey's beginning as one of Sulla's leading cronies, his involvement in the Iberian populare revolt led by Sertorius, and the vital, albeit little, role he led in the slave revolt led by Spartacus, taking the credit away from fellow optimate ...
Ancient Rome X - The First Punic War
This is the tenth of many chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter looks at the first contest between the soon-to-be rivals of Carthage and Rome over the control of the island of Sicily (264-241 BC). It focuses on the development of the Roman navy, the invention of the corvus which played a critical role, both positive and negative, for the Romans at sea, the failed invasion of Africa, and the surprise naval blockade that ...
Ancient Rome XIII - Art and Architecture in the Republic
This is the thirteenth of many chapters in History with a Twist of Lime's look on "The Historical History of Ancient Rome." This chapter looks at the extent of art and architecture the Romans attempted during the Kingdom and Republic, from the frescos and bronze works under Etruscan influence, to portraitures and busts from marble and clay once the Romans looked to the Greeks for inspiration. Roman coins are also observed for their artistic value as well. We then see how the early Romans ...
