Train Time - Rainy Day Quick Hits from 3-7-09

Description:
Overcast and rain throughout most of the day on Saturday March 7, 2009 in the northern Illinois area. This video is of seven quick clips of the day along the BNSF at Waterman, Illinois and several spots west of Rochelle, Illinois along the Union Pacific tracks. It includes a short clip is of "The Katy" UP heritage locomotive. The coaling tower in Nelson, Illinois is also shown. But no bright, sunny colors. GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS: I shoot a lot of train video and generally leave the entire train in the final edited video. I may speed it up but usually it is all in there. Do you viewers prefer that or would you simply like to see the power and a part of the train. Since I edit my videos, I can do either. I'd appreciate any thoughts about it... leave a comment. Or send a private Youtube message. Bill Canon HV30 30p Azden ECZ 990 Microphone Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 9.0 Adjustments for contrast, saturation and volume.

Train Time - Quick Hits at the Nelson Coaling Tower, Nelson, Illinois on March 14, 2009
I wanted to take advantage of the morning light on this day at Nelson to photo/video some eastbound traffic. Arrived at about 8:30. Within 10 minutes the first train showed up, a westbound, but at least there was the promise of some action. The ATCS monitor on my laptop showed some activity to the west and the signal tower to the east showed a green signal. So I didn't have to wait long. Within the 2 hours and 15 minutes that I hung around, there were seven trains that passed through. Five ...

Union Pacific EC-5 Track Inspection Vehicle at Nelson, IL on March14, 2009
I had spent almost three hours at the Nelson Coaling Tower this morning. Several trains passed by. But as I was about to leave, this Track Inspection Vehicle showed up. Thanks for the "toot toot. But that's a pretty cheesy horn... probably from an old VW. Need to stick a 1970 Buick horn in it. I gave a quick call to the Rochelle Railroad Park to let them know it was headed their way. Apparently it did go by there. Remember to watch it in HD. Canon HV30 30p Azden ECZ 990 Microphone Sony Vegas ...
Train Time - December 31, 2008 - Rochelle, Illinois Area
Please watch in High Definition by clicking the "Watch in HD" link. I had set out to video nothing but BNSF since it was my first really sunny (but cold) day with my new HV30 and I wanted to get some BNSF color. So I drove to Shabbona, Illinois and followed the BNSF tracks northwest toward Steward. Looking for decent photo and video locations. I noted a few good ones and placed them into my Garmin GPS for future reference. I settled into a spot about two miles southeast of Steward on ...

BNSF 7205 Passes BNSF 685 West of Chana, Illinois on 2-22-09
A video showing the passing of BNSF 7205 and BNSF 685 west of Chana, Illinois on 2-22-09. This passing actually happened over about a 12 minute period of time. This video has been sped up at certain segments to 3 times normal. I think it's interesting to watch the block signals as the trains move. Please click the "Watch in HD" link for the best quality. And feel free to comment on this and all of my videos. Thanks for doing so. A four photo set of this event is posted at Flickr starting ...

Train Time 12-06-08 Rochelle, IL
A few less visitors at the Rochelle Railroad Park on this snowy, gusty, cold Saturday. But the trains were running. Click the "View in HD" link.
BNSF 4701 East under the Burlington Road Bridge on 5-31-09
A mostly ethanol train rumbles under the Burlington Road bridge. Thanks for the horn flourish, BNSF crew! There is no grade crossing there, so that was simply a nice gesture. After getting decent video over at Devils Backbone Road, I hightailed it west to this overhead site for the next eastbound that was not too far away. Unfortunately, the lighting was a bit tricky with partial tree shading on the left and the bright, man-made canyon wall on the right. But it was too late to change ...
