4:15 PM: 04/28/09 (Carbon County - Bowmanstown, PA) - A large brush fire on Stoney Ridge Mountain as local residents call it burned 75 acres. Fire departments from Carbon and Lehigh counties were called in to battle it as it got close to some homes during the fire. The Bowmanstown command center called in a plane and helicopter to drop water on hot areas. The helicopter had to suspend flight at 7:15 because of increased winds coming off the mountain. Some of the fire departments at the scene were Bowmanstown, East Penn Township, Aquashicola, Parryville, Franklin Township, Lehighton, Towamensing Township, Lehigh Township, West End, Walnutport and the Forest Service.
