Title:
Medical trailer to help in times of national crisis

Description:
Brigham Young University Idaho has so many EMT's entering the field that Madison County has found a way to keep extra personnel on hand. Emergency Services is putting that talent to use. "BYU-Idaho has a paramedic program, an exceptional program, and they produce an endless conveyor belt of paramedics," said Corey Child, the Madison County Fire Chief. More personnel than the county needed. So they bought this 48 foot trailer, stock piled it up with medical supplies, and became authorized as a mobile clinic even capable of writing prescriptions. "Traditionally those sick people have been taken to hospitals," said Child. National incidents like katrina can be crazy, that's why they're sending out this trailer with paramedics to treat paramedics. "It's virtually impossible to have a large incident and not have responders that are hurt, injured, worn out, and sick," said Child. The trailer is split in two, one side for the team, with all the living necessities. "We're prepared to stay for long durations, we'll stay as long as the incident needs us, that could be a week, two months, or six months," said Child. And the other side is built to house the sick, with 4 beds setup for Iv's, oxygen, or even quarantine. "Fire season is always lurking, earthquakes are always lurking, national disasters are always lurking," said Child. Madison's Emergency Department expects this to be a revenue generating service, and it's already brought money into Idaho. "Sharmac trailers up in Twin falls, and Sharmac did an absolutely fantastic job building a custom trailer to our specifications," said Child. The trailer will travel anywhere in the nation, and could possibly even be flown to Hawaii.
