Description:
Here is a short film from my archives. I happened to have half a roll of 8mm film left in my Yashica camera when a fire broke out across the street from me in Poughkeepsie, NY. Stanley Crane was asleep in his home when the fire broke out at 11:30am. The fire started on his porch and started to spread through the house. He was awoken by a passing mailman and led to safety. You'll see the crowd forming and the old fire engines from the day. This is one of my few on-the-spot documentaries I've made. I didn't know what music to add to this film, so I left the whirring of a movie projector. Filmed: December 30, 1963

 | We Make a Fire (Highlights) - 1940's Well - not much we can say about this one other than little Tommy needs to have the s**t beaten out of him! Film is absolutely hilarious, if not for the fact that Tommy is every parent's nightmare (think Bart Simpson), then for the deliciously melodramatic musical scoring that accompanies it. Pay special notice to the brief musical "borrowing" from Wagner's Gotterdammerung (Brunnhilde's self immolation) as the fire erupts! It's little coded subtleties like this that make these "ephemeral" films all the more fun! Let's go pyro! |
