From the Western Highlands where the volcanoes climb to over 13,000 feet, a two-lane road takes you down to the coast. On the side of the road everyday life goes by -- people riding horses hauling wood, dogs sleeping, kids riding bikes, markets in full force. Soon you are in a completely different climate. The cool mountain air is replaced by hot tropical heat. Another hour you are on the Pacific Coast. The sun is very strong. The waves are marginal for surf but you jump in the ocean just to cool off. The fish, a cold drink and a splash in a pool are your best bet.
