R/C Space Shuttle Orbiter Model Piggyback, October 1998

Title:
R/C Space Shuttle Orbiter Model Piggyback, October 1998

Description:
Model by George Gassaway, of a 1/60 scale piggyback boosted Radio Controlled Orbiter. Video shot by Greg Warren. Model boosted on an Aerotech G12 reload, burning for 8 seconds. Orbiter uses rudder for steering, and elevons only for elevator pitch (much smoother steering with rudder than with ailerons or mixed elevons). Third R/C channel is orbiter sep from carrier rocket. Guillow's space shuttle boost glider
This was a foam Guillow's space shuttle, the kind they sell at Michael's craft stores and other hobby outlets. I made a plywood hook and epoxied it into a slot in the fuselage; it hooks onto a small 3/16" aluminum tube that is epoxied onto the carrier rocket. I entered this in the "E" boost glider competition that day, and came in second place behind Rob Edmonds, mostly because I was the only other qualified flight besides his.

NASA Shuttle Piggyback Takeoff Fort Worth Dec 2008
When word leaked out that the Space Shuttle would be taking off piggyback on the back of its carrier 747 from Fort Worth, a lot of us ran out and set up our cameras on a hill that overlooks the runway. I managed to get this footage.
