Dog Almighty on South Lamar near Manchaca Rd. in Austin

Description:
This is one of the very few hot dog joints in Austin. For 50 cents extra you can have it vegetarian, but that would be criminal and anti Texan. They have a couple of good beers on Tap. It's fast, easy and cheap, my three favorite things. If you add beer, it's my four favorite things. http://www.dogalmightyhotdog.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ0DQN9ykrM

The nation's oddest hot dog joint
And we mean that as a compliment. There's only one item on the menu at Charlie's Pool Room in Alpha - hot dogs. They're cooked with tender loving care by two brothers, John and Joe Fencz. The Munchmobile crew paid them a visit on its recent cross-state hot dog trip. (Video by Pete Genovese).

Maudie's on South Lamar in Austin Texas
My mystery guest and I hit another South Austin Landmark. I went here once before with my wife and once before that with my son when he was 5, he's nearly thirty now. Back then it was a Pizza Hut and we stuffed our faces for a few dollars. Good joint. Great location and the kid behind the bar said he will buy one of my bar blog books. I never said anything about a book, I don't think I have what it takes for a book. But I know I can handle this.

I like this place. It has a real hippie vibe and the location is very accessible. This video says it all, but read my blog anyway at: www.wisegeorge.blogspot.com
Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse Bar and Grill in Spicewood on 71W
Poodie's needs no introduction to Austinites in the know. It seems like it is a long way out on 71 but actually when you get to 620 and the Aboretum in Bee Caves, you are two thirds of the way there. I'd say 20 miles out of town, maybe twenty five. You never know when you might run into Willie Nelson at Poodie's. They are tight and he and Willie have worked together for decades. Of course, like everyone, he has his detractors. People who do their job well, often do. www.poodies.info www ...
