Hest Bank Derailment
In 1965, a south-bound sleeper train derailed at Hest Bank, near Morecambe in Lancashire. Due to a combination of the train mostly remaining upright, and the fact that the majority of the passengers were lying down, there were no fatalities. The cause was a broken rail created by wheel-burns which were prominent at Hest Bank because of the dual action of the water troughs and the sea spray. This footage depicts the derailed train.
