This video was taken at my research location In Isanti, MN. It was found by the home owner Rick and brought to my attention. It is my opinion that this tree was at one time a single tree with two trucks. The two stems grew upward and apart in a "v" shape. Someone or something manually twisted the trees together. I make that assumption because in the entire 80 acres I was able to explore, I never found such "natural" tree growth pattern. I work in the landscape industry and the only time I have ever seen a similar tree is when two trees are grown together and twisted, or trained to wrap around one another. Also the only plant I know of that does such a twisting behavior is a vine, I do not believe it is a natural growth pattern in deciduous trees. In most cases trees will grow in an odd behavior in order to maximize sun exposure, but since the area and canopy for this tree was wide open I do not see why it would grow as such. It is also important to note that other strange tree formations where found at this property, Birch trees were bent at a 90 degree angle as seen in photos on my facebook page.
