Cohasset defends state lacrosse title

Title:
Cohasset defends state lacrosse title

Description:
All the tension from a series of momentum shifts and controversial calls culminated in an explosion of celebration for the Cohasset High School boys lacrosse team. After trading improbable runs, the top- seeded Skippers stopped a comeback by rival Scituate and took charge in front of a raucous crowd yesterday to win their second straight Division 3 state championship, 15-14. Scituate standout Gary Crowley stopped a 7-0 Skippers run that made the score making it 14-11 by scoring two goals in a 52-second stretch midway through the fourth quarter, and his sophomore brother Kyle added another 37 seconds later to tie it, at 14-14, with 5:11 left. Facing the Sailors carrying momentum and the ball off the ensuing faceoff, Cohasset senior defender Bobby Meikleham picked off a pass directly in front of the net to swing things back to the Skippers' side. Junior Mike Grimm scored three minutes later on a rocket from the perimeter and his teammates' defense stood tall to hold on for the remaining two minutes to take the victory.
