Amicalola Falls to Mt Frosty Solo Backpacking Trip
On Easter Sunday Morning I set out from the Amicalola Falls State Park to hike as much of the AT Approach Trail as possible. Due to a late start, I only got as far as Mt. Frosty. Thanks to the book "A Wildly Successful 100 Mile Hike" by Rick Allnutt, I had the greatest time taking it easy and enjoying myself instead of rushing to "make good mileage." I spent the night in my Hennessy Hammock after hanging my food from bears and had a chilly night.
Downhill hike turns into mostly uphill - Hike Inn trail
I made this comment after climbing yet another grade while taking a side trail hike to the Hike Inn on my way back from Stover Creek Shelter on the Appalachian Trail. I had hiked up from Amicalola Falls to the top of Springer Mountain and then on to Stover Creek, a distance of about 10.5 miles the day before. My return trip turned into a 12-13 mile return hike. BTW... My pack weight was 30 pounds. It will be lighter next time :-)
