Title:
Ducks slipping again on an icy trail in Shubie Park, Dartmouth
Description:
For high definition video add: "&fmt=22" (without the quote marks) to the web address. Yesterday (March 7, 2009) it was 10 C (50F), but it takes time for all the snow and ice to melt, so the trails in Shubie Park (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) were slippery in spots. This section of the park was shaded, and was pure ice, with a little bit of water on the surface. Since there is a guard-rail I figured I could navigate the hill safely, but it was a lot harder than I expected. Near the spot where the guard rail is bent, the trail slopes to the steep bank above the river and the lower rail isn't very sturdy (not enough to lean on anyway). I made my way through this section by crossing the trail to higher section where the snow/ice was crustier--there was a chance to travel it without sliding down to the river. Since it took me awhile to get off this hill of ice, I turned to take a photo of it from a safer section of trail, and was surprised to see ducks (from the river) at the slippery part that I had troubles with. It's a good thing that ducks have wings! This was shot as a free-view parallel 3d movie, using a Loreo Lens in a Cap. If you can view stereoscopic images, the added depth really adds a lot. Tip: pre-load the film in high-def, put your mouse over the play button, then set your eyes so that you see the scene in 3d. Once you have the still image in 3d, press play and enjoy the silly ducks. (Also, don't try for full screen unless your eyes can do amazing things mine can't, or you are seated quite far from the screen). UPDATE: YT3D tags added July 26 Reading through some forums and stuff, it looks as though adding "&fmt=22" to the url will give the high quality video. This feature is really awesome! Many thanks to the Google people who made 3d video accessible this way (drop down menu for different visualizations).

![]() | A crow eating bread I think For high definition video add: "&fmt=22" (without the quote marks) to the web address. March 7, 2009. Still Shubie Park at the duck pond. A crow was busy eating and didn't notice me taking video of it. Even when I took a still photo (there is a gap in the video), the sound didn't distract/drive it away. Usually crows fly away when you just look at them (well they often seem to around me, anyway), so this one was very bold. This was shot as a 3d parallel video. If you can view 3d parallel ... |

This is in parallel 3d. (And probably looks best if you can view 3d parallel image pairs). I was actually a little surprised how well one can follow an object shot in 3d. I figured that as it moved around and the other things moved, it would just be a distracting mess, but I have no problem just following that one duck in the video. Tips: pre ... |

I had made a few boxes based on instructions for the Fujimoto Hexagonal Box (just search that in google and you should be able to find the cartoon illustrations for how to do it--here's one site that has it: www.britishorigami.info but never really thought about why certain folds were done. When I paused to think about it, I realized that a number of them were simply to help divide paper in to 3 equal segments ... |
