 | Nanny and the Professor Opener 1971 Soft and Sweet.. Wise and wonderful.. whoamistical.. Magical Naaaannny... One of my childhood favourites.. this shortlived fantasy series aired on ABC America from 1970-1971 and was telecast on the 9 Network in Australia on and off from 1972 onwards. This particular episode (a re-run) aired on Channel 9 in Melbourne in 1982. The series starred Juliet Mills as Nanny Phoebe Figalilly, Richard Long as Professor Harold Everett. Figalilly was apparently psychic, and had regular flashes of what was often more than intuition (she frequently knew who was ringing the doorbell before the bell even rang). There was the vague suggestion that she may have been at least several hundred years old and more than human, which the children thought they discovered in an episode after they saw a photo of Phoebe that looked like it was taken a century earlier. The kids were Hal, Butch and Prudence.. YES they were the character names !! The whimsical and memorable Opening Theme tune was composed and sung by the Addrisi Brothers. It's hard to believe that this show is almost 40 years old !! SADLY: The actor who played "Butch" the middle child, Trent Lehman took his own life in January 1982.. He was just 20 years old. TRIVIA: Kim Richards who played the little girl "Prudence" is Paris Hilton's Aunt !! |
