Check out www.ashleyhull.com Tommy Jarrell told an interviewer in 1982 he thought the melody derived from "Piney Woods Gal," and that "Sally Johnson" was in turn derived from "Katy Hill" "There's three tunes played just about like that, right there" (Peter Anick, "An Afternoon with Tommy Jarrell," Fiddler Magazine, Spring 1995). Kentucky fiddle tune Brushy Fork of John's Creek. This is Bruce Greene's version he learned from a tape of a man named Dandy Lusk in Kentucky. I recently had the good fortune of taking a workshop from Bruce and tried to apply some of his bowing advice to this tune. Fiddle cross tuned, probably in the neighborhood of GDGD.
