Interactive Lecture Series by OJO, Part 3 | Sci Fi Lecture | Engagement Party at MOCA

Title:
Interactive Lecture Series by OJO, Part 3 | Sci Fi Lecture | Engagement Party at MOCA

Description:
For the final event of their three-month Engagement Party residency, OJO, along with special guests as well as members of the audience, created an abnormal lecture experience. "Interactive Lecture Series" took place at MOCA Grand Avenue in the Ahmanson Auditorium on Thursday, August 6, 2009.. This performance consisted of a series of lectures, each of which acted as a musical score, with the speaker, audience, space, and environment functioning as compositional elements. As talks are presented on various topics, members of OJO took up positions beside the lectern as the house band, using audio trickery to affect the audiences reception of live speech. Focusing on specific words and phrases in order to induce listeners to react in all sorts of ways, their interventions lead to chaotic and memorable lectures. Video by Peter West.

Color Chorus by OJO | MOCA's Engagement Party
In Color Chorus, OJO lead a participatory musical performance organized by the interplay of primary colors and the thump of an 808 drum machine. The audience was divided into three groups, with each member having been assigned a color upon arrival. Choreographed projections of colored light on the crowd cued different sections of the audience to emit specific sounds and syllables that, when coordinated or combined, synthesized into one harmonious and cacophonous blissed-out evening.
