Something Weird Karamoja
The Karamoja tribe of Uganda is thoughtfully examined in this graphic documentary of their culture and rituals. These people live as their ancestors did a thousand years ago, and continue the traditions of scarification, piercing, and body mutilation that have shocked and mystified Westerners. From a young age, children are taught to resist pain (and have their two bottom teeth yanked out) and later have a big hole bored through their bottom lip. Pleasant huh? They brand, blood-let their animals and drink the blood for nourishment. A Karamojan wedding ritual is observed, and a ceremony for their god Baal is celebrated by slaying and dismembering an ox or bull. The happy participants eat the animals intestines.
