![]() | Elementary Productions: Ammonium Dichromate When Ammonium Dichromate is burnt, it decomposes into Nitrogen, water and Chromium(III) Oxide. The volume of the products are far greater than the reactant, and therefore the reaction gets a volcano- like appearance. |
![]() | Chemistry experiment - KMnO4 + NaOH + sugar Potassium permanganate solution changes colour when poured into sodium hydroxide and sugar solution. Colours are as follows: - purple (MnO4- ions) - blue (MnO4 3- ions) - green (MnO4 2- ions) - orange (Mn 3+ ions) |
![]() | Elementary Productions: Thunder in a test tube In this experiment, a layer of ethanol is placed on top of concentrated sulfuric acid in a test tube. As Potassium Permanganate is introduced to the test- tube, a vigorous reaction starts. The Potassium Permanganate reacts with the sulfuric acid to give Manganese Heptoxide. Manganese Heptoxide is a very unstable compound that rapidly decomposes into Ozone. A combination of Ozone and Manganese Heptoxide reacts with the Ethanol, and Oxidises it to Ethanal (Acetaldehyde) |

![]() | Elementary productions: Freezing Mercury with Dry Ice Dry Ice is added to Acetone, causing the temperature to drop to - 78,5 degrees Celsius. Elemental Mercury has a freezing point of - 38,8 degrees Celsius. |
![]() | Elementary Productions: Manganese Heptoxide In this video, synthesis and properties of Manganese Heptoxide are demonstrated. |

![]() | Elementary Productions: Chemiluminescence of Luminol Two solutions, A and B, are made. Solution A contains Luminol in an alkaline environment, whilst solution B contains Potassium Ferricyanide in a 0,03% Hydrogen Peroxide solution. When the two solutions are mixed, they reacts and emit blue light |
![]() | Elementary Productions: Oxidation of Glycerol by KMnO4 Potassium Permanganate is a very powerful oxidising agent, and will even oxidise a triol. After the reactants has reached the necessary activation energy, the pile of Potassium Permanganate combusts into a very hot flame (exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius). It is because of this that this mixture can be used to ignite Thermite |
