Composition: 80% Ammonium Nitrate, 2% Charcoal, 18% Aluminum Powder. Detonator: PENT (1g=0,036oz), HMTD (0,3g=0,01oz) History: (polska wersja poniżej) Ammonal is a blasting explosive containing ammonium nitrate, aluminium powder, charcoal, and generally trinitrotoluene. It was patented in 1900 by G. Roth of Vienna, and the following are some of the compositions made by his firm at Felixdorf in Austria. Ammonal A 80,75/15/4,25 Ammonal B 90/4/6 Ammonal C 88/8/4 Ammonal D 80/18/2 (ammonium nitrate/aluminium/charcoal) More violent mixtures made by the same firm are Ammonal I 46/30/22/2 Ammonal II 32/50/16/2 (ammonium nitrate/TNT/aluminium/charcoal) And modification of this have been used largely in the British service. It is not suitable for use in underground workings as it forms on explosion the poisonous gas carbon monoxide unless the proportion of ammonium nitrate be large. It has been used for charging grenades, and by the Austrians for trench howitzer bombs.
