Title:
GSCT Intertribal Dance Experience (Grand Entry) - Manitoulin Island
Description:
GSCT offers a Intertribal Dance experience that begins with the Grand Entry of all the dancers. This experience gives visitors a small taste of what they will experience at a powwow. All powwows in the area begin with the Grand Entry. This is the entry of all the people entering the powwow grounds. During the Grand Entry, everyone is asked to stand as the dancers, veterans, eagle staffs, and flags are brought into the dance area. Important guests of the powwow including veterans, flag carriers, eagle staff carriers, chiefs, elders, and Pow Wow organizers are usually first to enter the area. Next in line are the male dancers led by the Traditional dancers, Grass Dancers and Fancy Bustle Dancers. The men are followed by the women dancers, which are led by the women's traditional dancers, jingle dress dancers and finally the fancy shawl dancers. Once everyone is in the arena, the song ends and a song is sung to honor the flag and the veterans. Typically, after a prayer, the dancing resumes, usually with a few round dances and intertribal songs where everyone dances to the beat of the drum.

A curve of white beach against calm blue water with sailboats on the horizon. A rocky, windswept point where great waves crash in as the sun sets red. Still green fields that roll down towards a sparkling bay. A quiet night under a sky that is a sanctuary for stars. This is Manitoulin Island. |
