The site where the glassworks once stood at Herman City,(now Green Bank), NJ. It was built in 1869 by the firm of Lumen B. Wing and Charles W. Wapler of Brooklyn, NY. Hermann City Hotel Fire 1
Here is the exclusive video of the Hermann Hotel fire, June 15, 1987. Around 8 pm witnesses report hearing a loud boom and seeing a big black cloud of smoke rise from the Hermann Hotel. Some witnesses report seeing someone leaving the area in a small boat on the Mullica. Authorities determined the cause to be arson. The crime was never solved. Ghost Ships of Hermann City
The remains of three ships rest along the shore of the Mullica River where they were left in 1873 when the glasshouse failed. The names of these ships are the Argo, Jemima Harriet and the Mary Frances (or Two Marys). Some accounts list only two ships and do not include the Mary Frances. Ted Gordon describes the conditions in the Hermann Hotel before it burned to the ground. Many paper goods, including Hollis Koster's botanical information, were left to the elements in the house. Ruins of the Harrisville paper factory include jersey-stone, lime-mortared buildings with brick trimmings. Two 13 inch thick arches still stand. An artesian well still pumps iron water above ground.
