 | MONTEFIORALLE (Greve in Chianti) Il castello di Montefioralle, detto ab antiquo di Monteficalli, ancora compreso entro l'originale cerchia di mura, su cui domina una poderosa costruzione turrita, arrivò ad essere nel Medioevo uno dei maggiori centri militari ed amministrativi dell'intera valle, dal quale dipendeva anche il vicino mercatale di Greve, che aveva una rilevanza esclusivamente economica. Al centro dell'abitato di Montefioralle, nella parte più alta, si trova la Chiesa di Santo Stefano, che oggi si presenta all'interno nella forma assunta fra Sei e Settecento, ulteriormente modificata da rifacimenti ottocenteschi. Nell'ampia navata sono custodite, fra le altre opere, una preziosa tavola duecentesca raffigurante la Madonna col Bambino del Maestro di Montefioralle e una Trinità fra quattro Santi attribuita al Maestro dell'Epifania di Fiesole, riconducibile alla seconda metà del XV secolo. Un edificio situato lungo la strada interna del borgo è tradizionalmente indicato come casa nativa della famiglia del celebre navigatore Amerigo Vespucci . L'architrave porta infatti lo stemma e la "V" della famiglia Vespucci. |
