Problems of Social Constructivism and Postmodernism
Jeffrey L. Kasser speaks about the vision of science and the possible role philosophers of science should play in assisting science. I would have to go contrary to the fashionable trend of what many here on YouTube think and post this video. We continue to see in our culture, the cynical and deviant caricature of science drawn by social constructivists and postmodernists with untenable "grand narrative" only they seem to exhibit. Yet they continue to exploit and distort scientific theories (string theory, quantum mechanics, many-worlds interpretation etc) to serve their needs because they know that science does have authority in making genuine worthy statements about nature. But at the same time to social constructivists and postmodernists, science is no more then yet another "narrative" or a genre of literature speaking nothing about the mind-independent external world. Kasser thinks this tendency to promote relativism stems from valuing other branches of studies and their epistemology (notably English departments in universities...). Yes, of course, it is true that scientists are fallible and scientists cannot be totally passive about their narrative point. And yes, some scientist do crudely think that we can demarcate science and pseudoscience easily. But I have to appeal to the success of science. I believe that scientific theories progressively are getting better. The standard that we judge that a theory is becoming better is would be some pragmatic virtues. Better theories will solve more problems, and the problems found by us should in some way reflect the genuine questions we have about the real world. Then it seems reasonable to suppose that scientific theories are becoming progressively better in describing the way the world is over time. Thus scientific realism. "Jeffrey L. Kasser is a Teaching Assistant Professor of Philosophy at North Carolina State University. He received his B.A. from Rice University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor." (info from teach12.com)
Anonymous can CHANGE THE WORLD
One person, or a small group of people, has the ability to change the world. Sometimes their ideas are initially regarded as outlandish, impossible or even crazy but, ultimately, they are proved correct and the world is never the same again. For example, take Galileo who was ridiculed for stating that the Earth was not the centre of the Universe. Or Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. Who was also a leading author, printer, political theorist, politician, scientist, inventor, civic activist, statesman and diplomat. Then there is Isaac Newton, who, regarded as an unpopular renegade, formulated Mathematical Calculus, the Laws of Motion and Gravitational theory and enabled man to walk on the Moon. Finally, being Irish, my personal favourite is the leading Irish rebel and member of the 1916 uprising, Michael Collins. It was Michael Collins who, miraculously, achieved Independence for the Republic of Ireland through negotiation with Lloyd George and Winston Churchill in 1921. It is my conviction that through perseverance, protest and by educating the public, Anonymous can change the world by forcing profound change within the church of Scientology.

The argument "if you don't want to be abused, don't dress like that" is similar to "if you don't want to get raped, don't dress for it"- it's a poor excuse and shifts the responsibility of thought and consideration from the person guilty to the subject of abuse. You cannot blame me for dressing appropriately for the weather. You cannot blame any woman and accuse her of INVITING abuse or objectification. As I said, it is the excuse rapists use, "she's asking for it". Think about it. Had i stood up completely i would have received "oh you're just cutting out your head and showing us your body" comments so I will not accept any comments in reference to that.

phenomenology
'Phenomenology' is an animated short, which is to say it is animated, and it is short. Three minutes to be vaguely precise. You could call it experimental animation. But then again, you're free not to. It was created in 3dsmax with cel-shading, though that's hardly apparent any more. It is non-narrative. It does have music. Or, at least it would have music, if the term 'music' could be stretched so far as to include this. But that would be a rather long stretch, and the concept might break in the process.
