Ruth McQuade for Jefferson County Prosecutor
Description:
A member of the West Virginia Bar since 1979, McQuade began her legal career as an Assistant Attorney General in the West Virginia's Attorney General's Office. In this position, she was part of the newly created Environmental Task Force. As part of the Task Force, she prosecuted persons and companies, including coal mining companies, who were polluting the rivers of the state, and secured some of the highest civil penalties ever obtained by the state. She then joined the United States Department of Justice in 1983, and continued to prosecute criminal cases against persons and companies for conspiracy, mail fraud, and money laundering. McQuade also spent a year as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the United States Attorney's Office in Martinsburg, West Virginia, prosecuting criminal cases investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the West Virginia State Police. During that time she prosecuted numerous cases against those selling and using drugs, as well as bank robberies, and gun offenses.
