CBH Harpsichord shove coupler

Title:
CBH Harpsichord shove coupler

Description:
More harpsichord stuff @ http://www.hpschd.nu Carey Beebe demonstrating coupling the keyboards on a French Double Harpsichord. The keyboards on a French Double Harpsichord can be connected or coupled so both can be played from the lower. This is the mechanism of the shove coupler. With the upper keyboard retracted, the keyboards are completely independent, or uncoupled. When the player pushes the upper keyboard about 12mm away from him, the rear of each upper key lever is directly above the vertical slip of wood glued in the corresponding lower key called the coupler dog. When the keyboards are in the coupled position, playing a lower manual key must push the corresponding upper key. Each upper key can still play by itself. CBH Viennese fortepiano action
More harpsichord stuff @ www.hpschd.nu Carey Beebe demonstrating the Viennese fortepiano action on a Stein action model built by Philip Belt, New Haven CT 1984. The distinguishing feature of the Viennese action is the suspension of the leather-covered hammer in a fork (called the kapsel), set into the rear of the key. When the key is depressed, the beak end of the hammer shank catches under the hook of the sprung prell lever. The hammer is allowed to travel almost all the way to the string ...
CBH Fortepiano setup
More harpsichord stuff @ www.hpschd.nu Carey Beebe demonstrating how to setup a fortepiano. WARNING Do not attempt this at home! With the instrument on its trolley, remove the threaded front blocks. Install the legs along the right side of the instrument, selecting the short leg for the front right corner. Lower the fortepiano onto its three legs, taking care that the entire weight of the piano doesn't fall on one foot. Raise the front left corner, supporting the instrument with your knee so ...
CBH Harpsichord key balancing
More harpsichord stuff @ www.hpschd.nu Sydney Technical High School workplace learning student Timothy Murray demonstrating how to balance a French Double Harpsichord lower manual keylever. The balance of the keylevers must be consistent for good and responsive touch. The balance point of the lower keylever is rested on a frictionless fulcrum and a 2.5g weight placed on the playing surface at the head. The tail of the key must still gently fall, so the position of any necessary lead weight ...

CBH Goble harpsichord delrin conversion
More harpsichord stuff @ www.hpschd.nu Carey Beebe demonstrating the conversion of the original 4´ leather plectra to delrin on a 1974 Goble harpsichord. The damper cap is unscrewed from the jack body to provide access. The axle is partially extracted until the tongue is loose and can be easily dislodged. The replacement tongue, punched for delrin, is aligned in the jack body and the axle reinserted. The top screw is adjusted for good tongue motion. The delrin plectrum is inserted and its ...
CBH Replacing a boar bristle tongue spring
More harpsichord stuff @ www.hpschd.nu Carey Beebe demonstrating the replacement of a boar bristle tongue spring in a traditional wooden harpsichord jack. The replacement boar bristle is carefully inserted through the hole in the face of the jack until a good length has penetrated and is available on the reverse. This length is then looped through the second hole towards the bevel on the base of the tongue, and fed until there is sufficient above the tongue axle. The tail is then pulled from ...
CBH Wolfgang's Jacks
More harpsichord stuff @ www.hpschd.nu "The Modern Harpsichord" by Wolfgang Joachim Zuckermann was published in 1969, and went through three printings in a short time. The book caused considerable controversy upon its release, and because of its criticism of the modern German builders, it was banned outright in that country. The central theme of "The Modern Harpsichord"—that harpsichords should be made today as they were in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries—altered the course of ...
Gerhardus Havingha: Ouverture for Harpsichord
Monumenta Musica Neerlandica Gerhardus Havingha (1696-1753), was a Dutch composer and organist, who lived and worked in Alkmaar. He wrote a lot of chamber music, but everything is lost, excluding a set of 8 keyboard suites. He had to play the organ and carillon and was leader of the collegium musicum; the usual stuff. An other composer: Lustig (see my video with his promptement), didn't like his music very much and said it was good enough to feed the rats. Havingha was a great promotor of ...
