Sisquoc & San Rafael Wilderness
Title:
Sisquoc & San Rafael Wilderness
Description:
Hike with Howard into the Dick Smith and San Rafael Wilderness areas of the Los Padres National Forest. We hiked along the wild and scenic Sisquoc river, next to the Sisquoc Condor Preserve. While the ground was covered in bear and mountain lion tracks and droppings, the only wildlife we saw was a horned lizard, a few frogs, a gopher snake and a big old rattler. We did 7 miles on the first day, starting at 5:30 p.m., then 30 miles the second day, and 30 miles the third day. The terrain made the going difficult as the trail was non-existant in most places, and we spent a lot of time route finding and backtracking. This is a beautiful, rugged, and relatively unknown corner of California, well worth repeated visits and discovery.

Out of the box, it worked great, acquiring a full signal in less than 10 seconds, and holding it. For the most part, my calls could last as long as I wanted to talk without them being cut off. I was able to use it indoors if standing by a large window, deep inside canyons of the Andes that would have thwarted my previous Kyocera SS-66K or the 9500 and 9505's I've used, and in bad weather and ... |
