On March 18, 2009, the UC Berkeley National Public Health Hero Award was presented to Dr. John E. Wennberg at a ceremony held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The Public Health Heroes Award was established by the UC Berkeley School of Public Health to broaden people's awareness and understanding of the public health field by recognizing individuals and organizations for their significant contributions and exceptional commitment to promoting and protecting the health of the human population.
