"The godfather of home taping has a catalog of OVER 400 cassette/cd albums of songs, experiments, rants, goofy tape edits, radio phone-ins, record skips...you name it, he's done it, and his tapes are full of it. This is one of his best. Recorded on 8-track in 1979-80, CLACK! is 60 minutes of some of his best songs. It starts out with his ace power-pop remake of the Big Bopper's "Chantilly Lace" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSBgs7O48BY), and it just gets better and better. His remake of Jim Reeve's "I Love You So Much It Hurts" is so dead-on it's scary. Other great knock-out tunes include the wonderful instrumental "Theme From Hurricane David", the beautiful "I Go Into Your Mind" (see video of 2004 remake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tUXzDrA8UI), the introspective "You Always Want What You Don't Have" , and my personal favorite, "Part Of The Problem" (see video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8oEwxFnjB8). Despite being criminally ignored by the American record industry, the guy keeps pluggin' along, crankin' out cds, 30 years later. ![]() | R. Stevie Moore - Quits (1979) "RSM survived through more than 3 decades of obscurity. During that time, he fervently did the only thing he could do. He created. Like some kind of ragged messiah that followed an enlightened vision to it's bitter end, Moore arrived safely in the XXIst century as an uncrowned king of persistency. A strong inspiration to everybody creating in the shadow of the mainstream machine." - Perfect Sound Forever Unsung Father of Lo-Fi and DIY Pioneer, R. Stevie Moore - "Quits" from Quits (1979). ![]() | R. Stevie Moore - Part of the Problem (1980) "For a rhythm machine he's got a box from Panasonic with an on/off switch, 3 pushbuttons and a price tag of $10. His vocal mike is a Sony cardioid he's owned for 15 years. His headphones are this set of humongous metallic blue cans labelled "Vanco Co-Axial II" on one side. And over in one corner there is a dusty Panasonic Dolby noise reduction unit. Which he doesn't use. "I've had it 2 years. But I haven't really figured it out yet." And somehow, with this hodgepodge, the man makes music. Good music. Gives you hope, doesn't it?" - Musician Magazine 1983 DIY Pioneer and Pop Genius, R. Stevie Moore - Man Without a Gland (1985) "In an industry where mediocrity has blinded most standards of quality and copycat signings are a way of life, musicians who defy categorization and take risks must creep through a lonely underground and gradually develop specialized audiences. Fortunately, the stagnanation of the recording industry has not put the stops on Moore. He has remained excessively prolific and by forming the R. Stevie Moore Cassette Club he gets his music out to those in search of a vital musical imagination." - NY Press 1988 Unsung Father of Lo-Fi and DIY Pioneer, R. Stevie Moore performing "New Talent Needed All the Time" in a 1988 video. Song from "Swing and Miss" (1977). Get it Straight from the Man at: http://www.rsteviemoore.com/tp/swingmiss.html "With a catalog as extensive and varied as R. Stevie Moore's, it's difficult to come right out and declare any single release to be his best work ever. However, an argument can certainly be made for 1977's Swing and a Miss. The album's centerpiece is the one-two punch of the biting "New Talent Needed All the Time," a shaggy dog story in the talking blues style that neatly sums up Moore's difficulties with the mainstream music business." - All Music Guide Support the Artist Save R.
