Optimus Prime is the leader of all Autobots and for most of Armada, stationed on Earth in command of a small unit trying to find the long lost Mini-Cons. Optimus is highly skilled in Cybertronian martial arts including Metallikato and has noted on several occasions, that the training he received in his younger years made him the warrior, soldier and leader he is today. In the episode 'Crisis' the Decepticons through the efforts of Sideways and Thrust, had acquired the three Legendary Mini-Con weapons, the Star Saber, the Skyboom Shield and the Requiem Blaster. Placing them aboard a newly constructed starship, the 'Hydra Cannon', the nine Mini-Cons making up the three teams powered both the ship and its cannon of the same name. Megatron attempted to destroy the Autobot base on earth, as well as the planet itself, using this incredible weapon. Optimus Prime bravely sacrificed himself to reflect the blast back at the Decepticon Starship disabling it in the process and freeing the trapped Mini-Cons at its core. In the aftermath, his Mini-Con partner Sparkplug was found adrift in space, clutching the Matrix of Leadership in his arms. In the middle of a heated battle against the Decepticons, the Mini-Cons reached out to each other and resurrect Optimus Prime from within the Matrix of Leadership. Optimus continued to lead the Autobots and eventually alongside Galvatron, the Decepticons as well. This alliance was forged to unite the two factions against a much greater foe, Unicron. After Unicrons defeat and Galvatrons sacrifice, Optimus stated that he no longer deserved the Matrix of Leadership and sets off in self exile for parts unknown. During his campaign on earth, Optimus Prime displayed the ability to combine or 'Powerlink' with two of his fellow Autobots, Jetfire, the Autobot second in command, and Overload, a Mini-Con Headmaster. The combination of the three was referred to as Jet Magna Convoy or Jet Optimus Megaweapon. Optimus is also able to Powerlink with his Mini-Con partner Sparkplug, enabling him to unleash his devastating 'Maximum Blast' whilst in his own Super Mode.
