A recent ISU graduate's life was snuffed out in Boone Iowa July 9th, 2006, after tubing over a low head dam. These dams appear innocuous, but are in fact deadly. Don't underestimate the power of the currents below a low head dam.

Please note the water is only falling about three feet after passing over this dam; it appears harmless, but people have died here.

Tire stuck in a low head dam
This is a video of a tire stuck in the low head dam on the Lehigh River south of the Cementon bridge between Lehigh and Northampton Counties. This video shows that low head dams can be dangerous. At one point you can see the tire get about 10 ft away and get sucked back in.
