 | Lego walking dragline takes its first steps I've been working on and off on this model for the past couple of years. Today marks the first time it has rotated under its own power (with only one of four motors powered, for now) and more importantly it took its first steps. While this model is not an exact replica of a real machine, it follows the general arrangement of this type. My main goal is to build a functional model. Until today I was not sure whether it would walk, so I'm quite pleased with the results. |

The model is still not finished, has 24,000 pieces, weighs 80 lbs so far, and runs on 30 Lego 9v motors powered by 3 voltage regulators. There was no glue used in the model. (You can tell because the left shoe has actually come off the model in this video, oops) The actual machine was built in 1967 and was the largest dragline at the time. Its operating weight was 14 million pounds, it had a 250' long boom, and dug with a 155 cubic yard bucket. |
