Brockton First Night

Title:
Brockton First Night

Description:
Wednesdays snowstorm didnt stop Kerrie Farren and her 3-year-old son, Anthony, from enjoying downtown Brocktons first-ever New Years Eve celebration. Farren, 29, said she and her son were excited they could attend a New Years Eve celebration in their city and not have to travel to Boston, as theyve usually done in the past. They were so excited that they didnt mind walking through the snow from their home on Highland Street to get to the event, held at City Hall Wednesday afternoon and night. We were very, very happy we didnt have to go all the way into Boston, she said. We did some juggling with the clowns, and were getting ready to do face painting. This is good for families and children. This is very good that its close, she added. Many people were not as willing to brave the elements to get the event, however. Dan Russell of Brockton said he and his family were the first people to enter the heated, outdoor, kids activity tent when they arrived at 4 p.m., an hour after the Blast into 2009 event began. When we showed up, it was a ghost town in here, said Russell, who was working on making a Hawaiian lei with his 7-year-old son, Nicholas.
