Magic Wave by Reuben Margolin
The "Magic Wave" at the Swiss Science Center Technorama is one of the most complex kinetic sculptures in the world and the masterpiece of the artist Reuben Margolin from California. A net of 450 aluminium bars is transformed into a dynamic wave landscape powered by a marvellous mechanical mechanism that turns 4 circular movements into 4 sine waves of different wavelenghts, amplitudes and frequencies.
Earth Observations: The View From SIO
The world's leaders have committed to creating a Global Earth Observing System - a massive network to provide a continuous and comprehensive picture of the Earth and its environment. This "system of systems" would provide an understanding of changing conditions on our planet and support decision-making affecting the world's economy. Global Fire Map
In order to monitor the fires occurring globally, a special sensor has been mounted on the Terra and Aqua satellites. The sensor, named the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), is able to provide daily satellite images of the Earth's landmasses in near real-time using the MODIS Rapid Response System. There are many uses for the data collected from MODIS, such as monitoring global fires by detecting the abnormally high temperature anomalies at the surface. When a location is ...
Video Sphere - Sci-Fi Museum
While in Seattle, WA I went to the Science Fiction Museum and Experiance Music Project. The Sci-Fi Museum had this crazy video sphere. Basicly its a sphere shaped canvas that a bunch of projectors play on in sync. Clips from sci-fi movies and projections of planets would be played on the sphere. I want one at home.
Sphere multi-touch computing
Just when you though the Surface was the coolest thing since sliced bread... enter the Sphere! This product is still in proto-type mode but even at this stage, you can't help but be impressed. At the Microsoft Research Faculty Summit grabbed some one on one time with Hrvoje Benko, the lead on this project and found out all the details. It's just so cool, enjoy.
