Title:
railcorp safety breaches

Description:
whats happening with australian rail. railcorp refuses to cover safety critical shifts which in turn put all rail commuters at risk. RTBU Lead Organiser, Mr Phillip Kessey said, Workers are frustrated that RailCorp continue to refuse to listen to their concerns regarding the filling of vacant positions on the Central Coast which has led to commuters and workers safety being compromised. The Committee has met with local politicians David Harris and Marie Andrews who have pledged their support for rail workers. The Campaign to have these positions will commence this week with brochures being handed to commuters after the meeting encouraging them to contact the Minister for Transport, John Watkins to highlight the problem and have safety critical positions on stations filled Mr Kessey went on to say, "Rail Workers on the Central Coast are seeking the support of their local community on this issue to ensure positions were filled in order to maintain safety. It is unfortunate that RailCorp are not listening to the concerns of employees, commuters or Local Members of Parliament. RailCorp is mismanaged and the Minister needs to intervene and ensure commuters are provided with the service they deserve". MEDIA ENQUIRIES: Phillip Kessey — Mobile 0418 671 532 Apology to Commuters Members of the Rail Tram and Bus Union who work on Central Coast railway stations wish to appologise for the decrease in service and safety that is being provided to you due to RailCorp refusing to fill positions on stations. The current unacceptable level of service was demonstrated on Monday when a derailment occurred on your line and due to positions not being filled staff could not provide you with appropriate communication and service. The Rail Tram and Bus Union have raised this issue constantly with RailCorp Senior Management. We have also had meetings with your local members of Parliament and they have made a commitment to support us in helping increase service and safety rather than allow it to decrease. We have also been forced to raise serious safety concerns to the Independent Regulator of Rail. We think it is important that you understand who is responsible for the current situation. If you think your service levels should not be decreased then email Transport Minister John Watkins and tell him to take control of your rail service: dp.officegwatkins.minister.nsw.Eov.au or give him a call on (02) 9228 4866.
