Coal is King in this region and big business for the railroad. Huge, hungry coal fired electric power plants are in Wyoming and Utah near the border with Colorado. This spot is on the DRGW mainline at Hot Sulphur Springs along Highway 40. The hot springs are in a resort on the north side of the tracks and can be seen from Amtrak as you pass by. Although Amtrak doesn't stop here you can get off in Granby and backtrack to this spot, or do as I did and rent a car in Denver and head out on an excellent adventure.
