Railfan Exchange III, Part 10, Warrensburg, MO 8-6-03

Title:
Railfan Exchange III, Part 10, Warrensburg, MO 8-6-03

Description:
My wife got the job in Warrensburg. One problem -- she was not yet driving. So we had to have me drive her to work from Kansas City. She worked the early shift and I woke up early to bring her. I slept in the van next to the station, which was great, because when I woke up... well... what else am I going to do?

While visiting a store next to some UP tracks off of Noland Road, I heard the familiar 5 chimes of Amtrak coming around the bend and got my video camera out in time to catch it racing by on it's way to its next stop at the historic "Truman" depot in Independence.

While looking for a new place to live as my significant other was getting a job in Warrensburg, Missouri, we happened upon Pleasant Hill which has the western portion of the Sedalia Sub-division running through it past a rustic restored old depot. I caught a westbound unit coal slowly going through town.

So my wife was finally learning how to drive. One night she got mad at me and decided to go on a midnight drive to Warrensburg. She got some good practice in and I got this westbound coal train. By the way, she passed the test the next day.

I drag my wife along on yet another railfan adventure at one of my favorite hotspots. No, she hasn't caught the railfan bug. We go to a place I call Pines Junction on the UP in Northwestern Lawrence Kansas. Here there is a siding and the trains come around a turn in the Kansas river bottomlands. You can see and hear trains coming from the west for miles. To the east 24 Highway and the tracks parallel each other for miles towards Perry and Topeka.

I took a trip when from Springfield Illinois to Kansas City Missouri on the Anne Rutlidge in early spring 1998. Here we pass through Warrensburg, Missouri, which is our third station stop. Warrensburg is home to Central Missouri State University (the Mules and Jennys) and to Old Drum. It is also home to one of my favorite hangouts, the Teehaus.

Please see part one. Part one will tell you what happens! All of the schedule is all messed up due to an arrest on the station. I don't even know why there is a double-header Metrolink that didn't even stop at the station. This video was taken in May 15th, 2008. © Radityo "Gus" Erlangga (boredtrucker1902)

Oh the high lonesome sound on a chilly night when you are nestled in your bed with a good book or in a cozy place where you can hear the wind and the isolation of your soul and you hear that sound off in the atmospheric distance that makes you think of two lines of steel in the distant horizon and faraway places that you'd wish to someday see. THAT is why some people love trains, and others may never get it. On this foggy night I stopped by the tracks with my then girlfriend and we got some ...
