![]() | Leesha Harvey-- Penny in the Pocket (Original/Live) *Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: Footage from my March 1 gig at the Blue Moon Coffee Co. There was a great turnout--standing room only! I have a few pictures on the homepage of my website--be sure to check it out! Thanks! http://leeshaharvey.com Penny in the Pocket Ginger goes round on her merry-go-round She drags her hand in the dirt to try and slow it down Comes to a stop, she jumps to the side And curses the kids who were pushing the ride She plays it safe, she's counted the odds One too many risks might anger the gods She tiptoes lightly, out of the way To secure a safe arrival to her dying day Hey Chorus: Penny in the pocket Run until we fall They say we don't have enough But we know we've got it all No worries for tomorrow There's enough for today We're just rag-tag lovers And we wouldn't have it any other way Billy aspires to build empires with quarterly returns to buy what he desires A sure-fire way to get what he lacks He builds his wealth on someone else's back His nest is safe and his house is full Too bad he didn't take more stock in his soul He pinched and planned, scrounged and saved For some well-lined pockets to pad his grave Hey Chorus The prince withholds, the pauper gives The good man dies, the despot lives They can hide it away, safe in a box And hope they outlast the rusty locks Chorus © 2008 Leesha Harvey |
![]() | Leesha Harvey- Coffee and a Smile *Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: I've finally got around to recording another song! I'm trying to figure out a better recording set-up than just my little webcam, so while I think this is an improvement, I realize it still needs work. (And I know I'm flat on several notes--my allergies always freak out this time of year and it messes me all up! Bleh!) I wrote this song for two great loves in my life--my husband and coffee. ;) Brew a cup and enjoy! Coffee and a Smile What kind of day is it going to be I hardly slept a wink The sky looks gray, I feel so blue And I can't help but think The best thing I could do Is hide out under cover for a week or two Then I see you bringing me Coffee and a smile Can we sit, can we sit, can we sit for a while As I drink this bitter cup down Stay with me, stay with me, stay with me for a while Cause you're the best medicine I've found It feels like a weight is pushing me down A rock that's got me pinned beneath it I wait for a break, a light through the clouds It's close but I just can't reach it Back down in my usual slump Just another round of my life in the dump Then there's you, bringing me coffee and a smile There's no remedy that I haven't tried When will I bless this thorn in my side I'll drink this cup down, I usually do But it seems to be sweeter with you © 2007 Leesha Harvey |
![]() | Leesha Harvey- What Can I Do (Original) About a month ago I received an e-mail forward from a friend... it was meant to be humorous, but I didn't think it was very funny. The e-mail implied that anyone who is poor or has need of some sort of governmental assistance ended up that way simply because they are lazy and irresponsible. I know firsthand that is simply not true. I wrote this song fairly soon after receiving this e-mail, as a response to this unfortunate stereotype. I thought I'd do a rather light-hearted video to go along with it. Enjoy. Sounds best with headphones! :) And I apologize if it's out of synch... it was lined up perfectly before I uploaded it. What Can I Do They talk entitlements or safety nets and bottom floors All I know is what I make doesn't buy half the things that it did before And no, I'm not asking for much But the doctor's talking surgery and insurance just won't pay The banker keeps on calling, wants to take my house away What can I do now What can I do now What can I do now That it's all gone They're forming bread lines in this nation of wealth But you won't spare your pocket change to help feed someone else And no, you don't owe me a thing But you're burning up my wallet as you're drilling up the sky While I'm scraping bottom looks like someone's riding high Chorus You can call me crazy But please don't call me lazy 'til you put my shoes on and you walk about A sweaty brow and calloused hands Are no guarantee That you won't ever do without Chorus © 2008 Leesha Harvey |

![]() | Runyararo - A Song for Zimbabwe *Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: I wrote this song about a week ago after speaking with my Mom who lives in Zimbabwe. She told me many stories of things she has seen in the past few months, and while thinking about these stories this song was born. The photographs are all from Zimbabwe--most of them are ones my mother has taken. Runyararo (means "peace" in Shona*): Hold your hand out, child, hold your hand out and I'll fill it I know it's not much, but will it do? It's a big world and we're two small people in it If I could change it, I would for you But all I have is love Lift your head up, friend, lift your head and don't you worry Somehow we'll find a way to make it through Put your gun down, man, cause we're not here for fighting We're simply surviving, much like you And all we have is love All we have is love Ooo, Runyararo Ooo, Runyararo Let your pride go, sir, let your pride go and help fix this There will be no claiming, you never knew Are you watching, world, do you see the people dying? And are you trying, to do all you can do? Have you not love? Have you not love? Ooo, Runyararo Ooo, Runyararo © 2007 Leesha Harvey (*Please note, I do not speak Shona, so I apologize for any mistakes in my pronunciation.) |
