Description:
Tribal Chairman Jimmy Goins interviews the newly crowned junior Lumbee Ambassador. Here is a statement provided by LRDA from the 2009-2010 Junior Miss Lumbee Madison Elexis Davenport. Hello, I am Madison Elexis Davenport. It is with joy, excitement, and gratitude that I introduce myself as your newly crowned Junior Miss Lumbee. I am the eleven year old daughter of Mrs. Ranessa Kennedy and Mr. Jack Evan Davenport. I have two wonderful brothers, Matthew and Kade. I am an A student at Beulaville Junior High where I am entering the 7th grade. I am a member of the National Jr. Beta Club and I have recently made my school cheerleading team. I also enjoy tap, ballet, jazz, and lyrical dancing and I attend Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC. I am blessed with so many wonderful people in my life who have helped me with this dream of becoming your Junior Miss Lumbee. My mom and dad, and even my brothers have been so giving, loving, and understanding. I want to thank Grandma Chris who made the most beautiful regalia I have ever seen. I want to thank My Ma-Ma and Granddaddy Davenport, Geno, and Aunt Rose for your time and love. I also want to thank Ms. Amber for my beautiful clothes and Mrs. Nicole, you are an awesome dance teacher. This endeavor would not have been possible without the support of my many sponsors. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Mrs. Buffy Malcolm, Mrs. Lucinda Oxendine, Mrs. Elizabeth Straughn, and Ms. Erica Dellinger, thank you for your love, your time, and your advice. I must also thank God for blessing me each and every day of my life! I have dreamed of becoming your Junior Miss Lumbee for some time now and I am grateful that this dream has become a reality. I understand the commitment and responsibility required to serve the Lumbee people. I vow to promote my Lumbee culture with pride and dignity as I travel throughout North Carolina and the United States this year. I promise to model great values such as honesty, self-discipline, and respect as I serve as a positive role model for other young people. I vow to make you, my family, friends, sponsors and my Lumbee people, proud as I represent you during my reign. I am so excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and am looking forward to the many memories that I will make with my new sisters, Mahlea, Alexis, Allison, and of course, Ms. Molly. I am also looking forward to building new relationships with the LRDA Board of Directors and our Executive Director, Mr. James Hardin, as well as the Lumbee Tribal Council and our Chairman, Mr. Jimmy Goins as the fight to become federally recognized continues. I am honored to be your Junior Miss Lumbee, especially knowing that this may be a historical year for our Lumbee people; a dream we have had for over a hundred years! With love, grace, and gratitude, I am your Junior Miss Lumbee 2009, Madison Elexis Davenport
